Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi, my mother was told that she probably had a hiatal hernia recently. the area is a little swollen and the skin is thin in the LUQ associated with pain and burning inside and out x2 days. She has a slew of chronic health issues she is being treated for but this is the newest and it is really concerning us because it is burning and very sore/painful to the slightest touch. what do you think?
You are suggested to get your mother examined by a GP. She may need urgent medical aid in case of para-esophageal hernia. It can become a medical emergency if the sliding hernia bleeds, becomes strangulated or inflamed. Her treating doctor may recommend surgery / laparoscopic surgery. get her treated at the earliest.
She can take antacids or PPIs to relieve symptoms. This is not a time to keep your mother at home. Get her admitted in a hospital. She should wear loose fitting clothes. She should avoid fatty food, alcohol, chocolate and caffeine, as it may trigger the symptoms. She should avoid taking all acidic food.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
