What Causes Swelling Around My Big Toe?

So I have swelling around my big toe, at first I kind of ignored it then it kind of started hurting more, it is kind of red and swollen, I was just wondering if it is an ingrown toenail, and I think the cause were my track shoes since they are spikes(track cleats)?

Hi!! Your history points towards the diagnosis of ingrowning toenail as your big toe is red, swollen and painful and you have history of wearing ill fitted footwear. The first thing is to wear shoes that are sufficiently wide, high and pliable to remove lateral pressure on big toe. Wash your foot with warm water twice daily and keep it dry. You will have to take course of oral antibiotic like amoxycillin clavulanic acid combination and apply topical antibiotic like mupirocin on the affected toe. This will surely help you.
