What Causes Swelling Around The Ankles?

About 3 years ago when trying to put on my left boot as I pulled it on the seam across the top seemed to scrap the top of my foot causing pain. I wore the boot anyway and that evening when I took the boot off there was a bruise on the top of my foot. It s never gone away, it never got any bigger or darker. The only Tim there is pain is if it gets rubbed like during a massage or if I wear shoes that go over the top part of my foot, like a tennis shoe. This week however the bruise appears to be darker and the whole foot is swollen all the way to and around the ankle. What could be causing this?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The appearance of a bruise is suggestive of an injury in the area. This can be a soft tissue injury or a bone injury that can be ruled out after an X-ray. Rest and immobilization will help in recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
