Hi,

Swelling in the ankle along with bruising on the toes can be caused by several different factors. The prednisone medication may have caused the bruising, as it can sometimes lead to thinning of the skin and increased susceptibility to bruising. However, it is also important to consider other possible causes.

One possible cause is an ankle sprain or strain, which can occur even without an obvious injury. Another possibility is a blood clot in the leg, also known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT), which can cause swelling and bruising. In some cases, a fracture or broken bone in the foot or ankle can also cause swelling and bruising.

Other possible causes of swelling and bruising in the ankle and foot include infections, arthritis, gout, or peripheral artery disease (PAD). It is important to have your husband evaluated by a healthcare provider to determine the underlying cause and appropriate treatment. Additional testing, such as imaging or blood tests, may be necessary to make a diagnosis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
