What Causes Swelling In Ankle When Diagnosed With High BP?
Hi. I have swelling in my left ankle area. I have not been injured. I have had swelling before but it is usually in both ankles/feet. Typically when my ankle/foot is swollen it goes down overnight. This time I have had the swelling for several days and it has not reduced over night. I am a 40 year old female with high blood pressure and am over weight. Should I be concerned?
Do you have any other symptoms like pain over there? If there is no history of injury/sprain, ankle swelling on one side may suggest varicose vein or obstruction to venous return from obesity.
Very rarely this can happen from thrombosis(blood clot in leg veins) also, but here swelling will progress up gradually, and causes some pain or aching.
Kindly see your doctor for evaluation of the case. Meanwhile, keep the limb elevated avoid prolonged standing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aslam TK
