What Causes Swelling In Ankles Along With Red Rashes On Leg?

ankles have been swollen for a few weeks. Today I came back from a 3 week vacation in which I did a lot of walking and hiking. I am noticing the appearance of a splotchy red rash on my legs slightly above the ankles on the inside of each leg. ankles are still somewhat swollen. Should i be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and welcome.

The physical activity could be the trigger to your presentation especially friction from foot wear or the type of movements used for hiking and during the other activities. I do not really see a cause for concern. Follow the RICE protocol which entails rest, ice application, compression elastic bandage, and elevation of your leg to the level of the heart. You can also use NSAIDs like ibuprofen for relief from pain and swelling.

Best wishes.
