What Causes Swelling In Ankles And Excruciating Pain In Joints?

Hi I have had swollen ankles and excrutiating pain in the joints around my ankles for almost a month. It first started with just a minor everyday pain in my right foot on the top of that foot from the base of the fourth toe then I had the flu almost a month ago with unbearable bodyaches and my ankles began to swell and they are still swelling and hurting everyday the dr.'s have no answer as to why they think maybe arthritis..........
