What Causes Swelling In Back Of Knee And Warm Lower Leg?

I have swelling in the hack of my leg at the knee joint where my thigh muscle meets the joint. My doctor said its probably a kymph node and we'll keep an eye on it. My lower leg feels warm on and off like if it were going to sleep. what could it be caused by?
