Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My niece got stung by a wasp yesterday afternoon. She got stung right under her left eye. The eye is swollen and now both eyes are swollen and so is her forehead. I have gave her Benadryl last night and gave her some this morning. I also gave her some Tylenol this afternoon. Should I take her to the hospital?
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. It is unfortunate to note that your niece was bitten by wasp. Swelling is due to allergic and immune reaction due to the bite. You can wash the area with mild soap or antiseptic solution. Apply ice packs to reduce the swelling. Benadryl and Tylenol will help and continue the same. For controlling itching or skin irritation, use hydrocortisone cream or calamine lotion. See that the area does not get infected. In case the symptoms worsen or notice fresh symptoms of anaphylaxis like dizziness, weakness, nausea, vomiting, severe sewlling, loss of consciousness - seek medical help immediately. Hope the information provided would be useful and wish her speedy recovery.
