What Causes Swelling In Face, jaw And Ear After A Dental Work?

Hello Doctor, I have a urgent question regarding my mother who is in a hospital now very sick. First thing you should know is that my mom is 92 and in remarkable health. My sister decided that my mom go to the dentist after two of her teeth fell out. The dentist suggested that they try to save the rest of her teeth and she had about 5 fillings done that day. A day or two later she is rushed to the hospital with terrible stomach cramps. Her white blood count went very high and her right side of her face , jaw and ear is very swollen. Do you think this is caused from the dental work. Thank you

Thanks for your query, I have gone through your query.
The pain and swelling could be because of the gum infection or the tooth infection(leading to space infection). The pain and swelling might have occured secondary to the filling, if the filling has been done over a infected tooth with out doing root canal treatment.
Consult a oral physician and get a radiograph done to rule the infection. Once the diagnosis is confirmed, the tooth can be treated either with RCT or extraction.
Mean while you can take a course of antibiotics like amoxicillin and metronidazole(if you are not allergic).
Do saline gargling. i hope my answer will help you, take care.
