What Causes Swelling In Foot And Legs While Suffering From High BP Level?

HELLO, MY MOM HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING SWELLING OF HER FOOT AND LEGS. HER PRESSURE HAS BEEN ELEVATED AND SHE HAS BEEN TAKING PRESSURE PILLS TO LOWER HER PRESSURE THIS HAS BEEN HER FIRST TIME EXPERIENCING HIGH BLLOD PRESSURE. I HAVE TAKING HER TO THE ER AND THEY HAVE DONE TEST BUT THEY ARE NOT SURE WHY HER PRESSURE IS STILL ELEVATED AND FEET KEEP SWELLING. THEY ALSO STATED THAT HER LIVER IS EXCRETING MORE THAN THE USUAL AMOUNT OF PROTEIN. WHAT CAN THIS BE.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Increased levels of proteins occur as a result of 2 main causes such as: (1) dehydration , the decreased fluid levels can cause the appearance of increased levels
(2)increased production of proteins- this can occur in infections and blood cancers

She would need additional tests such as full blood count, ESR, serum protein electrophoresis (looking for multiple myeloma), calcium levels.

I hope this helps
