What Causes Swelling In Foot Post Fracture In Ankle And Foot?

Hello Dr. My mother-in-law broke her ankle and foot in three different areas. She is now healed, but is still having a lot of swelling in the foot she broke. She has gone to a specialist who says that this will happen for the rest of her life, so she must maintain a very tight sock on her foot. I would just appreciate some feed back for I was reading that swelling is just a complication of something within the leg.

HI
Well come to HCM
In orthopedic injury such swelling is very likely and this could be due to soft tissue injury second this could be due to circulation disturbance such condition could long last but not for life time, keep the leg in elevated position frequently, try "Crab bandage" and no need to worry about this, every thing would be fine, take care.
