What Causes Swelling In Knees When Suffering From Auto-immune Arthritis?

I have an auto-immune arthritis (undifferentiated spondyloarthropathy). It causes a lot of soft tissue pain, specifically tendonitis. I had tendonitis of the iliotibial band which I could not get to quiet after 1 month. My rheumatologist injected it, but really didn t get into the joint. Two weeks later I still had pain so I saw an orthopaedic surgeon, who injected steroid into the joint. It s been two weeks since the injection and the pain is gone. The knee was never swollen, but now even though the pain is gone, my knee is very swollen. Is this to be expected?

I really appreciate your concern, if this is the diagnosis Arthritis, then such knee swelling would be likely or expected some time this could be due to steroid therapy, hope this information helps, take care.
