What Causes Swelling In Legs And Lower Back Pain With History Of Urinary Incontinence?

I have been having problems with my feet and legs swelling even in the morning as I get up from bed. I have incontinence at night but rarely urinate during the day. I have hurting in my lower back when when I stand or walk . I am 65 years old,and this concerns me, my mother had to have a kindney removed because of cancer. I take meds to control my blood pressure and cholestrol. My feet and legs have been swollen for over a month now. I thought it was the heat, now I think it might be my kidneys.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the swelling legs with lower back pain do indicate possible issue of secondary renal damage from obstructive uropathy.

* The night time incontinence do favor benign prostatic hyperplasia with over flow incontinence at night time.

* The obstructive uropathy cause bilateral hydronephrosis via back pressure changes at glomerular region.

* The bilateral hydronephrosis over a long period of time pause alteration in renal function and raised creatinine level responsible for swelling both feet.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel
