What Causes Swelling In Lower Part Of Knee?

Hello,
I am 41 years old female. About 3 years ago lower part of my knee started swelling and it is about a size of a tennis ball right now. Doesn't hurt. If I massage it at certain point, the swelling goes away. As soon as I stand up, it comes back. what could it be?
