What Causes Swelling In Neck And Cheeks Despite Taking Amoxicillin And Ibuprofen?

Started with a toothache on Thursday afternoon, took some naproxen and the pain subsided. On Friday the pain was unbearable, saw my dentist and he says I need to have an extraction, but can only be surgical. Saturday I wake up, and my entire jaw/cheek/neck is swollen. Can't eat, can't open or close mouth all the way, and it hurts to swallow. Went to hospital and they didn't even seem slightly concerned. Gave me amoxicillin and some ibuprofen. The swelling hasn't gone down much and it's now Monday. Have an appointment with a surgeon in a week. Should I be concerned or did the hospital treat me properly?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

So sorry to hear about your problem and will try my level best to resolve it..

As per your complain it seems that you have a dental abscess or if it is a wisdom tooth then it can be due to swollen gum flap over the wisdom tooth known as PERICORONITIS and can cause similar symptoms..
The swelling will subside completely oy after the extraction of tooth is done..
I would suggest you to consult a Dentist or your Oral Surgeon oy as they can oy appropriately treat you..
You can be given higher painkillers like TRAMADOL and antibiotics like Augmentin..
Do warm saline gargles..
Do cool compresses over the cheek..
Take plenty of fluids and a soft diet..

Any further questions are welcome..

Regards..
