What Causes Swelling In The Ankle And Foot After Melanoma Surgery?
I had a skin cancer removed from my lower leg yesterday (mohs procedure). Today my ankle and foot is swollen and not sure if this is normal. The incision looks good and its not oozing or pink around the stitches. I called my doctor office before coming on here but the office is close. Not sure if I should go to Urgent care or if this is normal

What Causes Swelling In The Ankle And Foot After Melanoma Surgery?
Hello, It is just an inflammatory change following surgery. In In most cases it will settle by itself. Anti-inflammatory drugs like trypsi/chymotrypsin will be effective in most of the cases. You can keep the lower end of the foot raised to avoid edema fluid pooled in the lower limb. However, a Doppler scan may be taken to rule out DVT (deep vein thrombosis). Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Take care Regards, Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
