What Causes Swelling In The Ankle Long After Meniscus Tear Surgery?

I had a meniscus tear about 5 years ago and had it cut. It will often bother me from time to time with soreness and swelling. It had again flared up, I believe I may have injured it. It had been swollen for days and by days end I am now experiencing a swollen ankle as well. The ankle however does not seem to be sore....just tender maybe. I know I was with some edema in the entire foot 2 days ago.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my surgical experience, the swelling in the ankle after meniscus surgery over a long period of times may be related to cellulitis at ankle not related to previous surgery. A clinical evaluation with color Doppler report to look for peripheral circulation evaluation is must to proceed in this regard.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
