What Causes Swelling In The Ankles While On Amlodipine?

I take amlodipine 2.5mg per day at night before going to sleep. My feet and ancles are swollen should I stop using it? I am also take in the morning Lisinopril 5 mg and Hyrochlorothiazide 12.5 mg this for my high blood pressure. My BP readings in the morning before taking the pills are today 118/56/71 yesterday 120/59/72 and these reading is the consistent with other days readings.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.

It is due to the side effect of Amlodipine.

Amlodipine (a calcium channel blocker) is commonly prescribed in the treatment of high BP. Its most common side effects are flushing, increased heart beats, constipation and oedema causing swollen ankles and feet.

Since your BP is on the lower normal range even before taking the morning doses of Lisinopril and Hydrochlorthiazide together and the fact that you have developed swollen ankles and feet you may discontinue taking Amlodipine after consulting your treating doctor.

Hope I could answer your query.
