What Causes Swelling In The Ankles While Suffering From Pancreatitis?

Hi doctor. I had a severe gallbladder attack in mid February. Had two stones in bile duct---ERCP. Next day pancreatitis. Then CT scan and another stone in duct near pancreas. Had gallbladder removed on 2/25/17. Since then I have had on and off swelling of ankles and left leg..mostly left ankle. Had ultrasound..no clots. What is causing this swelling? My liver/pancreatic enzymes returned to normal. I do not have heart disease. I m 61 and female.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is gallbladder calculi stones and gallbladder should be removed by surgery. Substitute of gallbladder enzyme should be supplemented and swelling of the ankle is not linked to it. It might have a separate reason, it should be locally examined by a surgeon. There can be varicose vein or thrombophlebitis.

Thrombophob ointment can be applied externally. RA factor may be done. Apply crepe bandage, raise the foot with a pillow at bedtime, and can take NSAID.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashok Kumar Dash
