What Causes Swelling In The Arms?

In 2012 I was in an accident and broke both the radius and ulna (for the third time during my 57 yrs). This time the physician put in a plate. The bone did not heal quickly around the screws attaching the plate, but eventually did. Over this past couple of days, my arm had been painful to touch or to use, feeling almost as if it were broken. Today, it is better, but still painful. I ve not experienced any trauma to the arm. It was swollen over the last two days, and the skin appeared mottled (not itchy rash). Today, it remains somewhat swollen over one end of the plate. What could be causing this? I do believe the pain will subside eventually (especially if I schedule an appt. days out).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
this is dr hemanth kumar
if the pain is not predominant its not an acute problem you may not need to worry a simple x ray will judge the position of your plate and screws the swelling might be because of the minor movements while sleeping when you are unaware of the situation that minor trauma can cause swelling
any allergic response from the foreign body implants comes along with fever just check the position of plating you will get to know the reason
