What Causes Swelling In The Calf And Back Of The Left Leg?

Went to er today. Had ultra sound on left leg. No blood clod. Could not find anything. Did blood work, everything good. Cannot put weight on leg. It’s swollen on calf and back of leg. Doctor says it might be cancer drug I’m taking. I have stopped taking that as of today. What else could this be.

Hello,

1. As you have already done the ultrasonography of the affected leg and DVT has been ruled out thus consult an Orthopedic surgeon to exclude other causes like PVD [peripheral vascular disorder] or simply because of cramps in calf [due to diabetes, calcium/salt deficiency].

2. Make sure to check with your primary care physician since the symptoms have to be carefully assessed by your doctor to ensure that whether it requires immediate medical attention or long-term therapy since swelling could be due to a problem with circulatory/lymphatic system or with the kidneys.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Munish Sood
