What Causes Swelling In The Cheeks After A Dental Procedure?

I went to the dentist and had tooth cleaning and a two fillings. I was numbed with a cream my gums and after with a needle on my cheek which immdiately I felt a ball growing on my check. It's been over a week the swelling and bruising and now head aches. Is there anything else to do besides ice packs?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

It looks like there is hematoma formation due to piercing of blood vessels during the injection procedure.
It can cause spilling of blood into the soft tissues leading to hematoma formation..
It is a self limiting condition and will get better on its own..
If there is pain associated with it then you can take anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen.
If there is infection then antibiotics like Augmentin can be taken for 5 days..
If the injection site is painful the you can apply Oragel over it..

Hope this helps..

Regards.
