What Causes Swelling In The Eardrum With Pain Down The Neck And Jaw?
was at the hospital today after 15 hours of severe earache, which led to pain down my neck, my jaw, head and chin areas, i was told that my eardrum was swollen and the pain will ease of when it pops and drains? can u give me the medical term for this and will i have any long term effects?

Hello,
It seems that you are having "Acute Otitis Media" which cause collection of pus behind the ear associated with pain and bulging of ear drum. Please continue the medication already advised and make sure to use the Sinex (Oxymetazoline) Nasal spray 2 puffs twice a day along with your regular treatment.
If your ear pops and pus comes out, make sure to avoid the entry of water in the ear for at least 2 weeks to allow the ear drum to heal in order to avoid any long term effects. You can block your ear canal with Ear plugs or some cotton with Vaseline on it which makes a seal and prevent the water entry into your external auditory canal.
