What Causes Swelling In The Eyelid?

I was in a car accident where I was the passenger in the back seat (unrestrained). We were broadsided by a SUV. I hit the arm rest or door handle opposite me when struck at about 30mph. No x-rays or Ct was done. I have now got swelling above my left eye with the lid causing swelling that interferes with my vision. Is it appropriate now 5 days later to ask for CT of the head?

Hello
It seems from the history that you have suffered a accident while travelling in a car and your head hit against the arm rest following which you are having swelling of the eyelid.
This is because of hematoma as a result if collection of blood in the layers of skin as a result of impact of trauma.
It is a self resolving condition and no treatment is required and it will resolve by 3-4 weeks. Applying cold compression and oral antiinflammatory drugs are sufficient.
CT or X ray are not required they are indicated in signs if head injury like loss of consciousness, headache with vomiting....

Thank you
