What Causes Swelling In The Eyes After Applying Anbesol On The Gum?

Two days ago my son was cleaning his tooth with a toothpick and accidentally hit his gum pretty hard. The gum became very sore so he went to Walgreens and bought Anbesol and placed it on his gum. Within hours his lips swelled up and the next day his cheeks and under his eyes were swollen. He then got blisters under his lips. He went to Med First this morning and was given two strong antibiotics for the infection. My question is how could an infection come from an allegeric reaction to a medicine?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..

As per your complain swelling of eyes after applying pain reliever like Anbesol is due to allergic reaction to any of its contents..

It does not seems to be due to infection rather it is due to allergic reaction and you need to give him anti allergic like Levocetrizine or Benadryl for relief..
Do cool compresses over the swelling..

Once the swelling goes down you should get him checked by a Dentist for infection and treatment like Scaling of teeth can be done followed by antibiotics..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
