What Causes Swelling In The Feet And Ankles?

I have been having issues with swelling of my feet, ankles and slightly in my legs. My legs ache most of the time and when any pressure is put on them such as laying one leg over the other I get indentations that take at least 15 minutes before going away. Is there anything I can do? I am currently taking medications for restless leg syndrome as well as water pills.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
hi,
Thanks for the query. I understand your concern.
Swelling on ankle & feet can be due to multiple causes Starting from excessive walking & exertion , injury to ankle joint, severe anemia , venous insufficiency due to weak valves in lower leg veins, early sign of deep vein thrombosis to more serious conditions like liver/ kidney or heart problems or peripheral neuritis due to diabetes.

Instead of taking water pills to reduce the swelling .. you should undergo through physical check up to exclude / pin point the cause & get specific treatment .
Thanks.
