What Causes Swelling In The Feet Post A Intestinal Surgery?

On 1-08-18 I had intestinal surgery for a blockage in a hernia, I was released on 1-11-18. On 1-10-18 both my legs and feet became very swollen, I got up often to use the restroom, sat in a chair after eating, and walked the hallway in the Hospital. I was told this was expected and it will go away, it s now four days after surgery - second day home and they are still very swollen and uncomfortable, but no discoloration. What should I watch for, how long is it ok to be like this, is there anything I can do to help bring down the swelling. - Thank You

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

By reading about your condition it can be normal as you where admitted in hospital for almost 2 months and due to less movement's chances of developing swelling is common. once you start walking it will reduce by itself. For time being you can raise your legs on a pillow while you sleep. and can wind crepe bandage to reduce swelling. If possible once check your electrolyte's.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
