What Causes Swelling In The Feet While On Treatment For Breast Cancer?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in Sept of 2017. In Nov of the same year, I underwent surgery for double mastectomies. I am triple Negative and was stage 2. I 3was started on a poison cup of Adriamycin and Cytoxen along with Neulasta. I underwent a Heart ECHO. I had been experiencing severe shortness of breath, and swelling to feet and ankles. I actually fill like a swollen mass now. The initial results from the first echo, showed an EF of 50%. I continued to receive chemo. I am scheduled for another heart ECHO in two weeks. is an EF of 50%, while on these meds, of major concern or an indication I should stop the Chemo and try an alternative treatment for cancer?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The value of EF fraction is not bad and one could do well even in 50% of ejaction fraction and in my opinion no need to stop the chemo, one thing should be very much clear and that is if you do not have any cardiac symptoms then it is nothing to worry, cardiologist will better take care of this, your duty is to look for any clinical symptoms, sever breathing difficulty may not be due to EF, other near causes of shortness of breath need to be ruled out.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
