What Causes Swelling In The Feet?

My feet feel tight and feel swollen but don t look swollen. I have idiopathic neuropathy but I ve never had a tight feeling. Could this be a symptom of diabetes? My number was 5.8 I think. I do swell up at times but have not been on my feet a lot today.

Hello,

Diabetes can cause a number of cardiac complications so keeping your numbers in control is important for your overall health, especially your heart health. What I suggest you do is limit your sodium to 2300 mg per day and avoid all processed foods and those foods naturally high in sodium such as pickles, canned foods, frozen foods, deli meats, fast foods and table salt. Keep your feet elevated when you are not on them. Increase your intake of fruits and vegetables. Follow up with your doctor about your swelling in case he recommends special support hose or further testing.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Kathy Shattler, Dietitian & Nutritionist
