What Causes Swelling In The Hand After A Fracture?

I broke my humorus bone in my left arm. the surgeon had to put in a plate & screws. it has been six months since the surgery and I have swelling in my hand. I have limited use of my hand because of the swelling. I was told it can take up to a year or longer before it will go away, Is there anything I can do to reduce the swelling in a shorter time?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It may be postoperative oedema. You can try warm compresses for faster recovery. You can consult with your orthopaedician and he can help you further.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
