What Causes Swelling In The Hand After Bitten By An Insect On The Thigh?

Stung by yellow jacket on Saturday, September 10th in upper right outer thigh. Went to see MD yesterday for large localized reaction, eye puffiness, scratchy throat, headache and overall misery. She prescibed Bactrim and Predisone. Pharmacy did not have Predisone so I have not started that yet. This morning the top of my left hand extending into the forearm is swollen! I was stung by three yellow jackets in that location approx. one year ago. Why is this area re-acting? Is this cause for concern.

Hello,

Eye puffiness, scratchy throat, headache, localized reaction secondary to insect bite are suggestive of systemic reaction against insect bite toxin.

Predisone is steroid which will help to subside these symptoms. Thus, I suggest you take Prednisone at the earliest.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
