What Causes Swelling In The Knee After An Injury?

i INJURED BY LEFT KNEE BOWLING WHEN I STEPPED HEARD SOMETHING POP AND NOW IT IS SWOLLEN ON TOP OF THE LEG BY THE KNEED. i also now have pain in below my right knee also when i step of climb stairs is this from overcompensating for the left and what could either of these be.

Causes of swelling in knee after injury include hematoma, ligament tear, sprain or strain, patella subluxation/dislocation, knee joint effusion, problems involving head of tibia and/or fibula.
