What Causes Swelling In The Knee After Knee Replacement Surgery?

hi,, on 02/16/17 I had knee replacement surgery on my right knee..after the first few days I felt like I was making progress. however, now I am scared there may be serious problems. no matter how much elevating & icing I do the swelling does not go away. My knee feels like a solid brick. It is very tight. And still numb (it feels dead). When I try to bend it , it feels like a solid ball.

Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

It is normal to have swelling knee after replacementsurgery.

This is due to surgery itself that had caused inflammation of the knee and due to reaction of the body to the replaced knee material.

It will require a few more days to get completely recovered. Make an appointment with your orthopaedic surgeon and ask to get an xray of your knee done.

Keep applying ice and follow your doctor's advice regarding the exercising and anti inflammatory meds to use.

Wish fast recovery.
