Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I did not sustain an injury. Two days ago, my knee started to swell towards the outer side of the knee and it hurts. It s creaking, stiff, sore, and feels stiff in back of the knee. Just one side. I m favoring that side. I have a fairly high pain level, but it still is uncomfortable after three Advil.
If there is no history of injury or any type of trauma to the knee then it is likely that the pain is due to a previously undetected condition of the knee eg mild arthritis or ligament damage.
Imaging of the knee would be the best way to determine if there are any issues. An x ray would look mainly at the bone but CT or MRI imaging would provide information about the ligaments and cartilage.
I hope this helps
