What Causes Swelling In The Left Leg After Taking Amlodipine Besylate?
Hello! I was recently in the hospital related to a fall. My blood pressure was very high! I have CIDP (polyneuropathy) The hospital cardiologists added Amlodipine Besylate) 5mg. I suddenly have severe edema and swelling in my left leg. Starting at the knee and spreading to ankle and foot. No shoes fit me. I am wearing slippers to work. Could the edema be a side effect of the new medication? Thank you so much! Inam in a great deal of pain!
Amlodipine can cause leg swelling as a common side effect but it is generally rare to be only on one side, most of the time it is in both legs. Amlodipine should not cause any pain in the legs. If you have pain in the left leg with the edema you will need to see your doctor to examine you and rule out thrombosis or other possible causes.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj, General & Family Physician
