Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Swelling In The Leg While Recovering From Fracture?
I have a walking boot due to an avulsion fracture of my ankle. When I went to remove it, I noticed that the leg that didn t have the walking boot was almost twice the size of the one with the boot. I m thinking that if I hadn t had the boot on, that I may have had swelling in that leg, too. Is there anything I should be concerned about with this?. The one that s swollen is my right leg.
The swelling in the leg recovering from fracture suggest residual cellulitis or boot related compression induced edema from a compromised venous return.
It is advisable to consult your ortho surgeon for the same before some sort of infection sets in the swelling.
Till that time, elevation of the foot and avoidance of boot, ice application will support greatly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
