What Causes Swelling In The Legs And Blurred Vision?

My legs have been swelling. My socks now leave marks on my ankles after I take them off. I am 5 ft 10 in tall and weigh 170 lbs. I sit at a computer for 8 hours a day. When I stand up after sitting for a few hours I get a rush feeling throughout my body. My head starts to throb, my vision gets blurry, and I get very dizzy. Today my lips started feeling cold also.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

The leg swelling indicates increased fluid retention. Your other symptoms could be related to orthostatic hypotension.

For this reason, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and some tests:

-a cardiac ultrasound and NT-pro BNP levels for heart failure
- a chest X-ray study
- complete blood count
- blood electrolytes
- kidney and liver function tests.

Ahead Up tilt test would be necessary to investigate for orthostatic hypotension.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ilir Sharka, Cardiologist
