What Causes Swelling In The Lip And Soreness In Neck And Throat?

My partner started experiencing a swollen lip, achy all over and severe sore throat and neck. His tongue is even sore. He was on an airplane when this started last night. I gave him anthistamines and an ice pack but the swelling has not gone down. Allergic reaction to something? Should we be going to the hospital? He is 47, about 240lb .

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain the symptoms most probably looks like Allery reaction to some unknown allergen causing allergic Angioedema of lip as well as sore throat and neck..
As you have given antihistamines or anti allergics but the swelling did not reduce there is a possibility that the allergen is still present which he is exposed to leading to the symptoms of allergy persistently..
You should consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can do allergic testing and rule out the exact cause of allergic reaction and preventing exposure to allergen will relieve..
As of now you can be advised to rake Oral and injectable antihistamines and steroids..
Continue doing cold compresses..

If the symptoms recur after resolution then Immunotherapy can be give to him to reduce severity of allergy symptoms..
