My lips, top and bottom swell up frequently. They are sore, and get a bit blisstered, mainly around the edges. I am using chapstick mainly to help moisten them. If I eat salty foods of course they burn. I have not changed medications, do not think I am eating too much citrus fruit. Trying to drink more water each day and eve. They heal in perhaps 7-10 days, are fine for a while (week maybe two or three) then it begins all over again.
Swelling of lips or Angioedema of lips along with blisters can be most probably due to allergic reaction that can be due to a number of causes like allergic reaction to any foods or medication, allergy to any skin cosmetics, leather, latex, chemicals in water etc..
So my suggestion is to first of all consult an Emergency room and get evaluated and they can advise you allergic test to rule out the exact cause of the symptoms..
For now you can take anti-allergics like Levocetrizine or Benadryl and do cool compresses over the lips.. You can also apply Calamine lotion over the lips to soothe the skin..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
