What Causes Swelling In The Lower Left Abdomen?

Hello, I notices a small bulge in my pelvic area on my right side. I recently had a physical and the Dr. said it looks like a hernia. I have an appointment with a PA at my family doctor on Thurs., but I wanted to get on-line for some research to see if I can confirm this. Help?
