What Causes Swelling In The Lower Leg And Stiffness In The Neck?

I had foot surgery 10 weeks ago. I had a lot of swelling in my lower leg during recovery, but the swelling always went down when I elevated my leg. About 5 days ago, I thought I strained a muscle when I was yawning/stretching. Today, my chest is still soar and it hurts when I breath deeply. Also, my neck is stiff. I don t know if this is just a bad muscle strain or should I be concerned about a blood clot in my lungs?

Hello.

Your concern is genuine. However, the most common symptom of a clot in the lungs is breathlessness which starts all of a sudden. Even your chest Xray during the initial hours may be normal. Hence, I am of the opinion that your current pain is musculoskeletal.

Physiotherapy, hot water fomentation and a short course of muscle relaxants might help.

Dr Geeta
