What Causes Swelling In The Lower Lip?

I just returned home from work and not sure if I was bitten my a mosquito or something that may have been on my cat when I rubbed my face on her! But now my bottom lip is swollen on one side for about one hour now. I have been putting ice on it and took a piriton antihistamine tablet about half an hour ago no signs of going down, am I safe to go to sleep. I don’t feel any different breathing. Should l go to hospital! I really don’t want to waste people’s tkme

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your complain it seems that the symptoms of swelling of lips can be due to Allergic reaction causing Allergic Angioedema of lips....
It can be due to any food or medication while other causes can be allergic reaction to any skin cosmetic, soap, lip balm etc..
I would suggest you to consult a Physician and get evaluated and a clinical evaluation and investigations like blood tests for allergies like RAST TEST, Patch test, Food Challenge test can help in ruling out the exact cause of the symptoms and treat accordingly.
If there is no associated problem then you need not to worry and can sleep, however once getting checked at the emergency is best.
As of now take anti allergics like Levocetrizine..
Do cool compresses over the lips .
You can be advised injectable steroids and antihistamines to reduce swelling..
