What Causes Swelling In The Mouth, A Month After Wisdom Teeth Extraction?
My daughter is 17 years old, She had all 4 wisdom teeth removed on March 1st and had gotten dry socket in them but she has been good since mid-march. Today, she has visible swelling in the right side of her mouth and she said it is very itchy and painful.
Pain and swelling on right side of mouth for about after one month of wisdom teeth extraction is not necessarily to be due to extraction socket as by now the dry socket must have been healed.. You should get her clinical examination done by a Dentist to check whether there is any other tooth that us decayed and causing symptoms due to abscess formation.. An x ray can be helpful in confirming the diagnosis.. In case if the dentist notice any infection or swelling inside the mouth at the extraction site then an x ray will be done to check for any remaining root piece or foreign body in the extraction socket . A course of antibiotics like Augmentin and anti inflammatory painkillers like Ibuprofen can be advised to reduce infection and swelling.. Also doing cool compresses over the swelling can help.. Do warm saline gargles..
Hope this helps..
Regards..
