My right leg is swollen, this happened a few yrs ago to both legs for about 3 weeks. Then many years ago after I broke my foot. That time it was due a blood clot. This time it really hurts. I had my hip replaced about 3 years ago. I am about to turn 64. My mother died very suddenly at 61 of congestive heart failure. I m worried. I jus spent a year in a very abusive nursing home. I am still very sedentary. any advice? My. Mail address has been has been hard to access lately

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Swelling of one lower limb can be due to different possible causes such as : (1)trauma to the leg
(2)infection
(3)the presence of a clot
(4)varicose veins in the leg

Clot and infection would need to be ruled out if this swelling persists or worsens.
You would need to see your doctor for an assessment.

Imaging is needed to determine if a clot is present.

Treatment would depend on the cause found.

I hope this helps
