What Causes Swelling In The Throat After Receiving A Tetanus Shot?

I had a tetanus shot Friday at 6:30. Monday my throat was starting to swell. Tuesday morning I woke up and it was almost swollen shut! I could hardly breath and I managed to swallow a Benadryl with much difficulty and they are so small! I have never had this happen before. I have had sore throats in the past, strep, tonsillitis so much so they took my tonsils out. What is weird is my throat doesn t hurt its just swollen. Could I be allergic to the shot? The thing is wouldn t a reaction from the shot happen right away? I didn t eat any new foods or use any new products either as I am very careful of that having other allergies in the past. The only thing different was the shot. Could this be a virus? I have no other symptoms though. I am puzzled, please help if you can. Thank you.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It can be a pharyngitis or swollen tonsil.

It has got no relation with tetanus shot.

Consult a general practitioner and start a short course of antibiotics preferably amoxclav.

You can also do warm saline gargles for symptomatic relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
