What Causes Swelling In The Tongue And Sore Throat After Taking Cipro?

adverse reaction to cipro hcl 500mg. Severe swelling on tongue, sore throat, painful to swallow. Went to er , Dr thought that I bit my tongue. Tongue is swollen blistery and black and blue. Got home and researched side effects of cipro. ER did blood work and throat and chest xrays. Gave me an injection of Decadron. What next? thank you, Joseph

Hi,

You are having inflammation of posterior pharynx and over tongue. It can be allergic reaction to drug as well. For that you have been prescribed strong anti inflammatory drug that is Dexamethasone.

Now your clinical monitoring is needed and you can be prescribed low dose steroid for five days. Your doctor is also right. Black colored tongue is due to blood accumulation by trauma. With the time it will resolves.
