Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

Thanks for your query . The symptoms you mention are clearly indicating a condition known 'SILENT REFLUX' also known as laryngopharyngeal reflux . It is different from normal acidic reflux or gastrointestinel reflux , because it doesn't have prominent symptoms like heart burn.

It occur because the upper sphincter of esophagus allow the acidic content of stomach to come backwards unto the pharynx which cause symptoms you mention in query .

Simple lifestyle changes and some medicine will easily cure the condition . But you should not ignore it and get it treated because of its complications like permanent damage of vocal cords or middle ear infection.

I would suggest you to :-

- Avoid eating heavy and spicy food .

- Eat small and frequent meals .

- Eat at least 1 hour before going to bed.

- And do light walking after every meal.

Consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order endoscopy and ph moniter test . Doctor may prescribe antacid (gelusil), H2 blocker (ranitidine) and proton pump inhibitor ( omeprazole).

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain it is very much clear from your description that you have allergy to certain food items and whenever you eat that particular thin it causes you allergic reaction and all the above explained symptoms..

It comes under the category of food allergies..

When you have this kind of allergic reaction you can take antihistamines like Bennadryl or Allegra to relieve the symptoms..

You can also use nasal sprays containing decongestants and anti allergics to open up the air passage and ease in breating..

But in order to avoid its occurrence you need to keep a check on all the things you eat which cause you allergic reaction and keep a list out of it slowly try checking each ingredient one by one..

The one single ingredient which taken at a time that causes you the allergy can be ruled out as the allergen and can be avoided to prevent the allergic reaction..

Hope this information helps..
