What Causes Swelling & Mucus In The Tonsils?

I have slightly swollen glands, and my tonsils are red and moderately sore. Talking and swallowing aren't a problem. There is a heavy viscous white mucus in little "packets" on my tonsils. Yesterday I had a high dry fever which is now broken, along with body aches in the shoulders back and joints.

Hi welcome to the health care magic

According to history it seems to be streptococcus tonsilitis like infection... It might be secondary to viral pharyngitis...

Your work up done as follow....
-CBC
-Posterior pharynx examination
-Throat swab
-ASO titre (if swab not taken)

According to report further management plan decided

If count high with neutrophilia than amoxicillin with clavulanic acid prescribed for that....

For congestion relief phenylephrine like antihistaminic drug prescribed...

Salt water gargle done three times a day

Use hot water for drinking and avoid excess spicy foods

White dot can be seen in tonsilitis

If inflammation severe and not relieved by antihistaminic drug than steroid low dose can be prescribed for five days

Take care

Consult physician or otorhinolaryngologist for examination with keeping all this in mind
