What Causes Swelling Of Feet And Feet Along With Joint Pain?
My mom used green alcohol to rub on her legs to relieve joint pain. Afterwards her feet and ankles are swelling and the swelling is going up her leg. She had a test for blood clot that came back ok. Her doctor told her it would have to run it s course he doesn t know what s causing it. Could it be from the green alcohol, and if so is there anything she can do to get the swelling down. She s been icing and staying off of her feet. How long does something like this last if that is the cause. She only used it once,

Your mother seems to be suffering from allergic contact dermatitis. As treatment immediately remove the allergen and prevent further exposure. Apply 1% Hydrocortisone cream 2 times a day for 2-3 days. Cool the ointment before applying by keeping it in refrigerator. You can also use calamine lotion. Antihistamines like Diphenhydramine or Loratidine can be taken to relieve itch and to sleep better.
Apply cool, wet compresses. Place a cool, wet cloth over the rash for 15 to 30 minutes several times a day. You might apply prescription topical steroids, such as Clobetasol 0.05% or triamcinolone 0.1%. If the swelling doesn't decrease even with the above treatment, we must consider other causes of swelling like heart failure, chronic kidney disease, lymphadenopathy and liver failure. Please do consult a dermatologist and make sure there are no other causes of swelling other than allergic contact dermatitis.
